Final Fantasy XIV Patch 2.1 Coming on December 17

The Realm has already been "Reborn," but it will now be "Awoken" as well with the new update.

Final Fantasy XIV's 2.1 patch finally has a release date of December 17. Entitled "A Realm Awoken," the update will finally drop after a few weeks of delays brought on by the need to address server issues revealed by the crush of gamers logging in when the game relaunched in late August.

But all that is behind the game now apparently, as the patch will bring Company Housing, a new PvP Arena, a random instance setup called Duty Roulette, and an update to the Crystal Tower raid instance called Labyrinth of the Ancients.

The patch will bring a new main scenario for players to follow, as the beat tribes continue to try to awaken the primals, even as Eorzea is almost healed from the wrath of Bahamut. There is even a hint that players might get some clues as to what happened detective extraordinaire Hildibrand Manderville, who disappeared five years ago.

To accompany the release date announcement, Square has released a new video showing off what players can expect. Even with the delay in release, the update looks pretty enticing and should keep players engaged with plenty of new activity.
