DUST 514's Uprising 1.7 update adds new weapons and brings changes to the game's vehicle and Factional Warfare systems.
DUST 514, CCP's PS3 exclusive, free-to-play online shooter, received some new and improved content today in the form of an update: Uprising 1.7. While nowhere near as extensive as the Rubicon expansion its sister game EVE Online just received, Uprising 1.7 nonetheless brings new weapons, a revamped vehicle system, new battlefields and changes to the game's Factional Warfare.
The new weapons will include the Minmatar Combat Rifle, a "gas-operated short-barreled semi-automatic weapon that's well-suited to both short and medium range combat" and the Caldari Rail Rifle, which offers accuracy and power for long range fighting. The vehicle system meanwhile, is being altered to allow for easier handling and fitting. CCP hopes that these changes will "amplify their role" in future combat.
Uprising 1.7 will also bring with it an new Volcanic map type that will "spew magma in the distance" and fill the sky with ash and falling debris. As nice as that addition is, however, we somehow think that the improvements to the game's Factional Warfare system will be of more interest to players. Bolstering the connectivity between Dust 514 and EVE Online, Orbital Strikes must now be earned by EVE players before they can be called by DUST devotees. They can be earned by securing satellites orbiting above the planet in contest. For information regarding the 1.7 changes, head over to the official DUST 514 website.
