The alpha version of EverQuest Next Landmark will launch in the "last half of January."
While it shares the "Next" moniker, EverQuest Next Landmark has generally been sold as a markedly different beast that EverQuest Next. An MMORPG combined with construction games like Minecraft, it aims to offer players and fans of the franchise an opportunity to build their dreams and leave a permanent mark on an interesting world of fantasy.
In turn, there's been some understandable anticipation for the game that may finally be satisfied come January 2014. In a Tweet, John Smedly, president of Sony Online Entertainment, revealed that EverQuest Next Landmark will be starting up its alpha edition "in the last half of January." Prospective players were recently offered the chance to buy into the game's alpha version via a series of Founder's Packs that, as of this moment, are still available for anyone interested.
Honestly, while I'll admit to being a tad more interested in EverQuest Next itself, SOE has still done a good job of presenting Landmark as interesting property in its own right. That in mind, we'll be excited to see how players respond to the alpha version of the new game and if it lives up to the high expectations that many have been building up for it.
