Blizzard has merged several of the less popular World of Warcraft realms today to help promote healthier in-game populations.

Despite being the biggest MMO on the internet and possessing a player populace in line with some of the world's largest cities, World of Warcraft's servers aren't immune to the occasional population problem. That in mind, Blizzard will be initiating a series of new realm mergers today out of the hope that it might link some of its emptier servers together and bring back the sense of fullness and life that so many players love.

Earlier today, players found the following realms linked together:

  • Velen and Eonar
  • Demonsoul, Coilfang, Dark Iron, and Dalvengyr
  • Darrowmere and Windrunner
  • Draka and Suramar
  • Crushridge, Anub'arak, Chromoaggus, Garithos, Nathrezim and Smolderthorn
  • Anetheron, Magtheridion and Ysondre

Additionally, players can expect another round of mergers to take place at 6AM PST on January 3. This merger will include:

  • Akama and Dragonmaw
  • Galakrond and Blackhand
  • Shandris and Bronzebeard
  • The Forgotten Coast, Balnazzar, Gorgonash and Warsong
  • Undermine and Anvilmar
  • Executus and Kalecgos

A third merger is also being planned for sometime in the future, including the realms of:

  • Bladefist and Kul Tiras
  • Nazjatar, Mannoroth and Blood Furnance
  • Nasgrel, Vek'nilash and Nesingwary
  • Norgannon and Kargath
  • Uldaman and Ravencrest
  • Stormscale, Fireftree, Rivendare, Drak'Tharon, Malorne, Spirestone

For information regarding the planned mergers, head over the official announcement at the World of Warcraft website.
