Compared to Everquest, Everquest 2 felt so much different than its first installment. From the moment I saw the character creation screen, I knew I was in a totally different game.
The game first started by making me design my own character, much like the Star Wars Galaxies interface, I picked what face and body looked like along with the deity alignment and the character's name. The character screen is much more developed that Everquest, you can choose every single aspect of the look of your character, such as hair color, eye color, hair style and much more. There weren't any stats at all to setup during the character creation.
The interface is simply beautiful, it looks like you are watching a movie in widescreen, the icons and spells are out of the picture, they are located on the black bars on top and bottom of the screen. After some tutorial quests, I was on my way to explore the world. At level 3 I had to pick one basic class between Fighter, Scout, Mage, Tradesman, and Priest. The decision to be a mage was clear and I received my first character modifying quest. After completion of a quick easy quest I was transformed into a Mage.
The detail in the world was simply amazing, from the fauna to the animals and insects, I really felt like I was in a new world. The details of the characters were also amazing. I killed a few goblins and one of them dropped my first loot in everquest 2. It was a belt and after I put it on it showed as a little belt with a sash on the side of it. Some of the guards and NPCs that I saw had the greatest detail I've ever seen in a game. The armor was simply outstanding and the level of detail that was added to the models compared to the first one are just marvelous.
I had the chance to see Nagafen fighting some of the employees of Sony, the player characters looked like ants next to the fabled dragon. It made me realize how much more impressive the graphics were in this masterpiece of a game.
While I could go on about the details in this game, you will have to see for yourself when beta starts or if your unlucky you will just have to wait until the retail release. I am still in awe about what I have just witnessed and can't part with all of my emotions. I truly believe it will be the next big thing after Everquest and people will be shocked at the immensely vast and beautiful world that is Everquest 2.
