Asherons Call: Server Connection Issues

| 22 May 2004 23:52

We are aware of players getting booted and not being able to reconnect.

We are looking into the issue as we speak.

Thank you for your patience.

We are on it!

Frankly not sure what's going on, but we are all on it.

I'll get back to you as soon as I've got more info

Follow the Annoucements as things develop here.

Both Asheron's Call games are currently experiencing bouts of severe lag, and many people from both games are unable to log in at this time. This is being caused by a mess-up with our internet bandwidth provider -- they are routing our data all over the world before it gets to us. Presumably this is due to a hardware failure, not sure at the moment.

The Turbine website (that you are reading right now) is also experiencing severe lag for the same reason.

I'll post more here when we have more information.

Read the Latest Update from Turbine Here!

Folks, just to keep you up to speed. There seems to be a major routing issue that is out of our hands. I would like to stress that this is -not- a Turbine issue, but it is effecting a large portion of the internet community and just not our games.

Honeslty we dont have an ETA when these issues will be fixed.

Once again, thank you for your patience.

-Grandpa-

The problems can be monitored here!

We've just learned that UUNET is reporting a major fiber cut in their backbone in the Ohio area, this is impacting East Coast to West Coast traffic from florida up to maine.

We have no eta, but have all the folks who need to be awake in the middle of the night here on the East Coast ready to do their part to make sure we are back up as soon as possible.

Katahdin posts the latest news here.

We have been told that the problem is that a major fiber cable got cut in Ohio. Because of this, east coast-west coast US traffic is bad in general for the internet right now, and particularly bad for us, since we rely on this backbone. All relevant parties are working on it (UUNet, AT&T, our ops teams, and various other teams). Unfortunately, it sounds like it will require some hardware work before the cable is back up... we have no ETA yet.

An Update from Citan AC2 Live Producer can be read here!

It looks like connections could be getting a bit better. We've got nothing official from UUnet yet, but things appear to be getting smoother.

Please use caution when logging in. Avoid muling or doing anything extremely dangerous for the time being in case the situation flares back up and you die and can't get back in.

The rule of thumb right now is to play safe.

Grandpa gives us the green light! Be careful... you have been warned.

Things are working better at the moment, but we still haven't heard an official word on the broken fiber cable, so it's possible that game quality will relapse. The team will stay with the issue until it is fully resolved.

AC2 Live Producer, Citan stays on top of things here.

After a very long night, and a bit of an anxious morning...things appear to be back to usual.

Please play with your normal reckless abandon!

Thanks for all your support and patience last night!

Our fans are the best!

Yes - the problems we had last night are now under control. As of early this morning, we are being directed to our servers through a different route. Although some may still experience different degrees of lag, it looks like everything has stabilized.

Thank you for your patience!

We've been informed that the problem is under control, and we are being more efficiently routed around the broken cable. Things do seem to be working better, though lag may still be somewhat larger than before until the cable is repaired.
