World Of Warcraft: Interplay Offices Closed

| 5 Jun 2004 08:28

On a note not on the topic of WoW, a sad day in gaming saw Interplay's offices closed today by California's Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Labor Standards Enforcement citing a lack of health insurance, workers compensation, and the fact that worker's wages hadn't been paid in a month. Interplay has serious financial problems as it owes $179000 in taxes, $432000 in rent, $79000 as a result of it's recent labour infractions, and is being sued for $156000 by BioWare for unpaid royalties. In April their financial statements pointed at only $1.2 million in cash, so this may be the last we see if Interplay but Herve Caen, Interplay CEO, disagrees. He is optimistic that Interplay can get back on it's feet, as are some of the workers. There have been rumblings for about a week now as Interplay's website went down and has yet to come back up.

Interplay has developed/published many games including the Baldur's Gate series, Icewind Dale series, and the Fallout series.
