Heads up! Touchstone Pictures is releasing "King Arthur" on July 7th, 2004.

Who can resist the clashing of swords in the heat of battle... the promise of love.. the making of a King? All three of these story lines have the making of what I personally hope is just a darn good movie.

The official movie site states that "Arthur wasn't just a legend, he was a real man: someone who sacrificed himself to become a leader and earned the right to be called King". So far, much controversy is being voiced about the movie in regard to the History Channel's recent showing of "The Quest for King Arthur" and many fear that Jerry Bruckheimer's adaptation will be way off target.

The synopsis is quite simple really: "As the Roman Empire crumbles (circa 450 A.D.), the British Isles are thrown into a loose anarchy as errant knights are entrenched in years of territorial battle. Then, one king emerges to unite them, Arthur, with his concept of a Round Table of united knights. This film aims to tie the legend of Arthur into the realities of the time in which he would have ruled. The details of the plot aren't known, but this film will likely depict the battles that led to Arthur's reign, and the issues that he would have dealt with (the traditional "pulling Excalibur out of the stone" origin story will probably not be used)".

Hmmm.. If the stone is not going to be used.. then who is the kid with the sword in the trailer? I guess we will just have to head to the theaters and see this drama for ourselves to find out that answer!

Along for the ride with Arthur (Clive Owen) are his infamous Knights of the Round table: Lancelot, Galahad, Gawain, Tristan, Bors, and Dagonet. The "Woads" include Guenivere (Keira Knightley) and Merlin (Stephen Dillane), and all are against the nasty Saxons led by Cedric and Cynric! Ok.. so I haven't heard of any of these actors/actresses.. but prior to "Gladiator" I hadn't heard of Russell Crowe either.

Well, my curiosity is peaked so I have added this to my list of "must see" summer movies
