Star Wars Galaxies: Star Wars video prompts lawsuit

| 11 Aug 2004 00:45

A little while back I came across a story mentioned in our very own forums about the "Star Wars Kid". At the time I thought nothing really of it. The full story is actually quite harrowing.

A Canadian teenager has launched legal action against classmates who put a video of him online, saying that the publicity has left him mentally scarred.

This public exposure has apparently proved to be a burden for the teenager who has been through through psychiatric care to cope with his unwanted publicity. The video was edited across the globe and has been hugely popular. There are now 38 versions of the original video originally reported that add various effects (eg. lightsaber sounds). One website has started a petition to convince George Lucas to feature the 15 year old in the forthcoming Star Wars film.

Lawyers for Mr Raza are claiming compensation of 225,000 Canadian dollars (£100,000) from the four boys who allegedly stole the video and put it online.
