Star Wars Galaxies: Editorial: The Dupe Banning Is Out of Hand - UPDATED

| 20 Aug 2004 04:08

I understand that SOE needs to protect the game by taking swift action against those who dupe credits and use other exploits. Unfortunately this latest round of credit duping has led to a new form of griefing. Some of the dupers are handing out massive tips to innocent bystanders causing the bystanders to be banned as well. Take this story from Kettemoor:

Now this is what really enrages me to the point where I might just cancel everything. I talked one of my co-workers into letting her 11 year old daughter play this game. This little girl wanted nothing in the world except to make a Twil'ek Dancer and ID. She didn't even KNOW about the forums here and received a million dollar tip from a random customer the other night on the Lowca Server. Her account was banned yesterday as well.

Now this game has many many millionares in it, how in the h.ell is a little girl supposed to know that the money is coming from a duper and not a grateful weaponsmith or something? I had to explain to her what a duper was, she didn't know!

I talked to this little girl for an hour last night listening to her cry, she was 2 months into a 6 month account and was very very close to Mastering Dancer. Needless to say I felt partially responsible for her being subjected to this so I bought her an account with a 6 month membership last night.

If they can determine who received duped credits and how much was transactioned, why can't they just ban the dupers themselves and just take back and destroy the credits that were given?

Come on SOE! Use your head! If you can track the duped credits, WHY NOT JUST REMOVE THEM FROM THE SYSTEM?!

I now return you to your normally scheduled news.

UPDATE: I have received reports that some of the banned accounts are being reinstated. I have no specific information concerning the little girl mentioned above. The official word from SOE is that if you feel you have been un-fairly banned, you should contact Customer Service at the email address provided in the ban notification email.

While this is a welcome sign, I can't help but wonder why it had to come to this. There are enough ways to be griefed without adding this new fear of being tipped. The dupers should be permanently banned. Innocent bystanders should be asked to turn over the credits to a CSR and that be the end of it.
