Asherons Call: Updates on the AC:DM Site

| 9 Dec 2002 23:21

This week on the AC:DM site, their featured developer is Speed:

Speed takes the content from the Devs and integrates it into the game data files. He also helps with content creation and sometimes add quests or fun things to the world. Speed is a great team player and loves working with the talented and dedicated people on the AC1 team, and really looks forward to all the cool things they have planned each month. Some of the things he's been involved with: Flags, Ulgrim's monthly diatribes, some of house decoration items, some cooking recipes.

He's answered several questions including one about Larry the Bunny Master!

Also, there's an in-depth article on the creation of the Forgetfullness and Enlightenment quests (skill sell-back). A small excerpt:

While we will focus on the team efforts required, it should be noted at the outset that this feature became a reality largely as the result of the drive of srand, the Lead Programmer for the team. As one of her teammates put it, "She's the one who worked through the coding and the quest dynamics. Of course it wasn't a completely unilateral effort on her part, but it was really mostly srand: She rocks. And I know this is a great feature -- to be frank, I still suffer from having played a very gimped character for over a year. Had skill sell-back been available earlier, I would've been treading high-level killing grounds long ago."

Background Implementation Details
It is interesting to note that the skill sell-back feature grew, quite unexpectedly, out of other concerns regarding problems encountered while developing "proportional experience" (PXP). To give you a proper feeling about this process, we'll start by explaining how srand started with working on PXP, encountered problems and developed solutions that led to setting up the mechanism to create the skill sell-back feature.

Gotta love srand!
