It had been ages since he had seen the sunlight. Thousands of years since the last time he had touched green grass, and here he was walking in the woods. He thought he'd never see the light of day again in his long long life. Smelling the trees and musty air about him. He smiled. He stretched his hands in front of him and marveled at the body he was in. A rather young elf, probably no more than 200 years old itself. It was a skin he fit in rather well.
He weaved a quick spell on the unsuspecting rabbit about 30 yards in front of him. Picking up the soft animal reminded him of desires and pleasures from centuries long past. He ran his hand under the soft fur and felt the tiny ribs of the animal. He could feel the heart racing, so he looked deep into its eyes and said, "Shhh". The rabbit's heart slowed to a slow thump......thump thump.......
It was coming back to him now. He remembers being in the large room deep under the earth. He remembers being in accord with thousands of voices around him all forming the demi-god that he had become. All those souls wrapped and bounded by some ancient magic. He remembers a huge force of above-earth creatures invading his domain and slaughtering the demons assigned to protect him. His guards from another age. Then they attacked him, all at once. They used swords to hack away at various limbs and bodyparts that were attached. They used hammers to crush his legs. And one elf, a very foolish elf, even tried to tether his mind to a part of him. To control him! The arrogance! The idiocy!
They all died that night, he even remembers attaching many of them to himself making him even stronger. But the young elf he did not kill, nor assimilate. He allowed the bond to happen, only on his terms.
And now here he was in open air again. No longer imprisoned, though he could still feel a part of him down under the earth. He was living two lives now. Casually he sank his teeth into the soft underbelly of the rabbit. Feeling the warm blood run down his cheeks as he ripped flesh and fur. Ah yes, he remembered the taste of blood. So many pleasures of the flesh, he was ready to experience them all.
But first he had to strengthen himself. Living as just one being would not do. He needed to feed. He needed souls. He closed his eyes and tried to remember how he used to do this. How he use to hunt.
He took a deep breath and dropped to his knees. He could almost....there! There! To the north. He sprinted through the underbrush racing towards an encampment of men he could not see yet.
He burst onto a small camp with 4 men in armor around a fire. One of them yelled in a language vaguely familier. He recognized the word "elf" and remembered humans and elves were at war right now. Moving faster than they thought he could he stopped the first man from grabbing his longsword and bit into his neck ripping a hole in his throat. It felt good to be above-earth fighting like he used to so long ago. The man crumbled with his hands wrapped around his throat. He made gasping sounds as his knuckles turned crimson.
Clearly, judging from the expressions of the other men, this was not the normal way an elf would fight them. One man gathered enough of his wits to grab his bow. Before he found an arrow, the elf spread his hands out palms up. A blue light emanated from him spreading to cover the entire camp. The three men became statues, each one with a look of terror on his face. Time to feed.
Three hours later, he was a mess. From their voices in his head he gathered that a great war was taking place not far from here. The above-earth creatures from the north were invading this land and a stand-off was coming up at a castle nearby. He would find many souls there. Many that he could pick and choose from and become like his otherself. He smiled. Only one day in this body and everything was falling into place. Looking up at the sky, he raised his hands. His eyes become black pools. "Tell them I'll be right there." He said to the sky.
Dark clouds formed immediately. Lightening forked from one cloud to another as the wind picked up in a frenzy. The storm was his calling card. His herald. The storm will lead him to them.

(To be continued)

Well this introduces all the players. Trouble is afoot at the Circle K! :)
