Lao Zun-Pei has updated his column again on Asheron's Lore. Here's a snippet:
[i]Is death too easy to over come? Or should it be made easier? And where does being killed by other players come into this equation?
I will admit, dying and losing items is an annoyance. I carry plenty of death items and rarely lose anything of importance. Since I am admitting things, I will admit that for most of my deaths the only reason I return to my body is to save myself the money I would otherwise spend on buying more Master Robes.
Death in Dereth is certain avoidable most of the time. To add to that, Death in Dereth is usually not due to Melee Damage, but rather to spell damage. So we can add that little bit to figuring out where things go wrong.
Turbine has taken some steps to make monsters a threat to players through Melee Attacks. Certainly several breeds of Olthoi can inflict punishing blows if they player is unaware. Hollow Minions simply ignore banes and Armor Protections. Aphus Lassel brought Shield Hollow and Life Magic/Shield Hollow Tuskers to the scene. And there was much griping on the parts of Melees (or should I say Mages with Butter Knives?).
