Dark Age Of Camelot: Sound the Trumpets!

| 20 Dec 2002 22:37

Let me tell you, looking through my inbox these past few weeks was no fun. There were a great many submissions to look through. Some of them I could rule out right away because their subject matter was not what I asked for (for future reference, a one-page site with links to other pages such as Warcry and Catacombs does not entail an information page).

However, there were two sites that I had a hard time choosing between. At first it was "which site is better?" Then it became "which site will I feature first?"

DAoC Weave struck me as a little inconvenient at first. The navigation is a little roundabout because the concept of the website is that of a "weave," that is, you click on links to search out your information. It''s basically a search engine where the words are provided for you.

Obnoxious as it is to search for basic information by this method, it also makes it easier to discover facts that you don't know. [p]
For Example: Open up DAoC Weave . Click on the Midgard link. Then click on the Midgard Creatures Link located at the top of the page. Here you'll find an alphabetical list of nearly all of the creatures in the realm of Midgard. Did you know that many existed? No? Neither did I.

Of course, discovering something like that isn't as important as knowing what creatures can be found in what zone of a realm. Although there are (understandably) no individual links for each creature, you can search out where a certain mob can be found by heading to the Midgard Regions link instead.
The great thing about the regions pages for every realm is that there is a map for every region. Ever wondered what someone was talking about when they tell you to go to West Downs? All you have to do is head to the page for Albion's Regions Page and look for a map.

This one takes a little bit of common sense though. Most other players who've spent time in Albion like I have know that West Downs is a tiny little town located right by Salisbury Plains. Luckily, Albion's Regions Page is pretty complete and the regions are listed in outline form. So if you''ve always heard of Barrows and never known which region it was in, you'll know by looking at Albion''s Regions Page that it''s located in Salisbury Plains. [p]
Possibly the only drawback about this page is its state of completion. Although some pages are very well done and definitely complete, there are a great many pages that are missing information. However, Ranena Spirtflame (webmaster of DAoC Weave ) has noticed this and mentions it on her front page. [p]
If you ever have the time, by all means pop over to DAoC Weave and spend a little time. Even if you believe that you know everything about the game, it's most likely that you'll find something you never knew about. [p]
Tune in next week when we take a look at another great website. And if you''d like to be considered for a review, please send the URL for your excellent DAoC information or community webpage to Partrige
