Star Wars Galaxies: NDA Violation - Care to Try It?

| 3 Jan 2003 05:16

This reporter chooses to keep some of the facts under wraps in the interest of responsible journalism. Surely I will never be accepted at the National Enquirer now. But alas, foregoing the career that was to be, I bring you this:

One Beta tester will not be enjoying a happy new year in SWG. Several SWG Beta screenshots and the coveted November 15th edition of the SWG Beta Manual were posted on a prominent gaming forum (no, not Warcry). Some viewers were treated to these goodies and the poster was heralded by some as an MMORPG Robin Hood. Others were less impressed and gave the elusive poster an ear full as well as an honorable mention on the SWG Discussion Forums.

Measures were taken by this individual to hide their identity by altering the screenshots in those areas that might give away who they might be and even where in the SWG realm they were travelling. It proved all for naught. It took Sony a mere 97 hours to discover and drop the hammer. Screenshots? Gone. Manual? Gone. Beta account? GONE!

Unfortunately, there are some unforeseen (as well as the foreseen) problems with posting information such as this. Several viewers downloaded the Beta Manual and it now resides on several nodes around the internet which will surely add further spark to Sony's flame.

"I felt a great disturbance in the force. As if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened..." - Obi Wan Kenobi
