Someone sent me this link as an update to the FAQ section on the N-Gage - it looks like you can buy an N-Gage QD plus a $50 mail-in rebate for... $50. Effectively a free N-Gage, there's a bit of a catch though.
First, you need to sign a T-Mobile service contract to get the phone (only 12 months though, which isn't terrible). To get the rebate, you have to go with the $39.99/month plan. You'll also need to add an additional option on top of the basic plan for unlimited online gaming - $9.99 a month - which you'll definitely want for the N-Gage. These are the expected catches though.
The really nasty catch is buried in the "Terms & Conditions", all the way at the bottom. If you cancel the contract early, not only will you get the usual $200 cancellation fee from T-Mobile, but "You may be charged $350 for any cancelled units before 121 days by A1Wireless in addition to the carrier's termination charges." $550 for canceling? Ouch! The year of service doesn't even cost as much as that fee.
On the other hand, if you're looking for a new cellphone or are in the market for an N-Gage, and don't mind the 12-month contract, it is a really sweet deal, just don't even think about cancelling. For extra sweetness, there's also a family pack up there for two N-Gage QDs and a shared plan for as low as $49.99/month, which actually works out to be a better deal per phone. The plans also include headsets and car chargers, if that makes a difference.
I'm not going to add it to the FAQ because it's going through a third-party retailer, but if anyone decides to give these guys a try please let us know how it works out on our forum.
