City Of Heroes: Paragon Doorknobs to Receive Upgrade

| 9 Nov 2004 10:45

Around lunch time on October 21, Cryptic's QA Community Liaison, Valdermic, was fielding questions from the PCC for QA. A lively series of posts sprang up about the dreaded door bug.

Said Valdermic:

I understand yours and everyone's frustration concerning "doors". I've made the Dev team aware of this thread and of all the post about this topic. It's still NOT considered a bug and pausing at the door before clicking it will solve this issue. I will keep everyone posted if the status changes.

However, the debate raged. Several heroes complained that the "non-bug" has caused more than one hero death whilst fleeing a mission. The thread grew long and the pleas more desperate until November 8 when Valdermic returned to give the good news.

Said Valdermic:

I don't agree with Wither when he claims that the QA team, the Devs and I are amateurs. I am however a man of my word. I stated that I would make the Dev's aware of this thread and pass along everyone's concerns. I also said that I would let you know if the status changed.

Well....GOOD NEWS!! Your voice has been heard and once again the Dev team and QA have addressed the issues that concern you, the players.

----------> o "Fixed the long door wait bug, that left players with an hourglass cursor unable to act for an extended period."

We are verifying this in QA and should have it ready for the Test Server soon.

Certainlty not amateurs, Valdermic. Amateurs don't respond to customer complaints, and they certainly don't take the time to do it in their forums. In fact, three weeks from complaint to testing the fix is pretty good development time.

In response to the good news, Paragon City Council released a statement through a representative calling himself Valdis.

Said Valdis:

"City Council takes up Doorknob Issue"

The Paragon City Council, after much debate has finally agreed to pass a resolution to require renovation of old doorknobs throughout the city. The problem came to hand when it was discovered that numerous heroes had fallen to the various forces of evil due to doorknob operation failure. Although able to burn, freeze, and blast away enemies of a variety of types, including everything from gods from another plane to psychicly run robots, heroes throughout the city were continually threatened and sometimes even defeated by the faulty doorknobs. A spokeswoman for the mayor declared, "Although the cost is extensive, we believe this renovation will great aid not only the superheroes who (sometimes) save us from evil, but they will aid the citizens and make our city a much more desirable place for businesses to locate.(sic)"
