City Of Heroes: Tankers - Statesman Needs You!

Earlier, I summarized the key complaints from the Tanker forums:

1. Tankers don't do enough damage.
2. Tankers can't manage aggro enough.

So I promised action. Well, some playtesting quickly showed that any adjustment to damage meant that the Tanker quickly outshined every other Archetype. We came up with a number of balancing strategies, but in the end, we found that if we boosted the damage, we'd need to turn the Tankers resistances down. That meant making a Tanker a Scrapper.

On the second issue, we've been wrestling with a number of solutions. Datamining has demonstrated that very, very few Tankers ever choose the Taunt power from their own power sets. But nearly every Tanker picks Provoke from the Power Pool. At conventions and in PM's, Tankers have continually complained that they are the ONLY Archetype that needs to use the Power Pool to fulfill their role. I totally agree.

So Positron, Geko and I tossed around some ideas today about this. And I wanted to get your opinions. Our solution: turn the power "Taunt" that every Tanker has in their Secondary Power Set into a Provoke. In other words, a ranged AOE taunt.

For all those Tankers who already have Provoke as a Power Pool choice - we offer a free respec. That way, a Tanker doesn't need to use a valuable Power Pool choice on something that's really demanded by the Archetype.

BTW, we still are working on Ice & Stone Armor. No worries about that dropping off the radar.
