Precisely how Global Chat works is still being tested by the player base. A few questions have arisen and CuppaJo responds even over the Thanksgiving Weekend.
Cosmic Titan asked:
IMPORTANT QUESTIONS- PLEASE RESPOND...
!) When a player joins my public channel, or he is invited to my private channel, if his "handle" is used, are all of his alts then subscribed to that channel?
2) If I don't know a player's handle and send the join invite to his character, will all of his alts be invited or just that one character?I have read the FAQ and PDF and not found the anser to these. A big part of the problem is that the instruction cover BOTH the new global chat and channels. These are NOT the same thing, so when to use handles and when to use character names is confusing.
And CuppaJo, apparently sensing the urgent request and rushing to the CuppaComputer responded:
I am not 100% sure on this - I am in New Mexico visiting my family and do not have access to the test server right now.
However, I am 99% sure that all of his alts have access to your channels. Same for #2. If you are using GC then the GH is what is ultimately invited to the channel - not really the character - I think being able to invite by character name instead of handle is just ease of use.
I am not sure what the big deal is about this - it's all the same person.
*ducks and runs from the role players who now probably want my head on a stick*
I should be able to test this next week sometime - late Monday or Tuesday. Unless one of you fine players has a spare moment to test it out and report back here.
Happy Turkey Day Heroes!
Fear not, CuppaJo! The CoH Community comes to the rescue in the form of LaughingDog:
I created a channel and made it private. Invited a friend to the channel. Logged off and back on with an alt and I was still an operator in the channel with my original character's name (my global chat handle). Friend logged on an alt, and was already in the channel with his global chat handle.
So I'd say it's verified. Invite one character or create a channel, and all your characters have access.
I don't see why anyone would want to use Global Chat for RP purposes, but I suppose there are some who will get upset by this feature. THe only thing it says to me is that instead of inviting 30 players 6 times for their alts, I can invite 30 players once.
Done deal!
