Once Upon a Fateful Battle

Many evils walk this land
Many of us die at their hand
In fact it happened to this man
Once Upon a Fateful Battle

Smugly I stood on top of the hill
From my canteen I drank my fill
Watching the monsters run and mill
Once Upon a Fateful Battle

I girded myself for the task ahead
Hoping to bring much dread
To the beasts below eating bread
Once Upon a Fateful Battle

I sprang into combat, with sword and shield
And we converged in the grassy field
I thought of the treasure the monsters would yield
Once Upon a Fateful Battle

Blood soon poured from my chest
I wanted to be the best of the best
But I was tiring like all the rest
Once Upon a Fateful Battle

I dropped to my knees on the bloodsoaked grass
And fell in a twisted bloodied mass
And I knew that breath would be my last
Once Upon a Fateful Battle

At the lifestone I slumped in fields of grain
Emotions spilled I could not contain
Cursing that we would meet again
Once Upon a Fateful Battle
