Asherons Call: Soapbox - A Letter from a Former Advocate

| 23 Feb 2003 13:14

Today's Soapbox showed up in my mailbox on patch day, but was an attachment so I didn't have the chance to peruse it immediately. And it's one I've been expecting. There are several former Advocate's on the WCoD staff - and most, if not all, are upset about the Aegis Shield being brought back. The writer of today's Soapbox certainly is.

So, I'm going to do something I don't usually do and start the argument right here in the news.

Let me say this first - I understand and agree with the sentiment of your argument. I understand that if feels like the betrayal you felt two years ago is being shown to you now in the hands of everyone who ever completes this quest.

But let me postulate something else. For the first time in two years, the Advocates are a part of conversation. All those people who started after the program ended and have never understood the Statues are now learning. And seeing the shields every day doesn't have to stand as a reminder of the program ending...instead it can stand for a reminder of the program having existed.

And finally, (and I'm sure this answer will annoy everyone), Turbine's doing an INCREDIBLE amount of balancing these two months. I didn't see ANY new art on a single monster. Perhaps consider the whole of what they're doing and look for the good?

And that being said, to all the advocates, sentinels and overseers - I miss you. You were an important part of my beginning game experience and it wouldn't have been the same without you.
