It's coooold outside! (At least where I live). Winter is here with a vengeance, so what better Quest to feature for Friday than that of The Lost City of Frore!
Beginning in The Sudden Season (December 1999!) characters in Dereth experienced something new: snow on the ground. After some investigation it was determined that the Gelidites were to blame (see our Lore section for more).
The Lost City of Frore figured prominently in the events of The Sudden Season (December 1999). Rumors of the Gelidites, their travels and final destination were found in several places. (See, for example, the Tattered Old Book found in Frore and now available in the Library at Zaikhal. This details some of the history of the Gelidites and their search for a place to create the Great Work). The original Tremblant Rumors were found in the libraries at Cragstone, Hebian-To, and Zaikhal. They hinted at the travels of the party of Sir Joffre Tremblant, Knight of the Golden Flame, and his companions Yarick Pathwarden, Palomar Ben-Cabalah, Ion Lundgren, Fidisa the Agile, and Luma Homini.
Interested adventurers traced the path Sir Tremblant's party took: first, north of Arwic to the Mountain Pass. There, two vendors noted that the party had passed through earlier. This trail then lead to Bandit Castle where MacDougal at first denied knowing anything. A scrap of parchment in an Ice Cave just north of the Castle then pointed to the first Standing Stone, just east of the castle.
Once this first stone was found (and in it a parchment containing Dericostian Runes), several dropped notes penned by Yarick Pathwarden led the way to the second and third stones and additional parchments with runes. When combined into a single document (and translated by Kuyiza bint Zayi the Translator in Zaikhal) they now pointed to portal space coordinates. Kuyiza bint Zayi then offered that his colleague now vacationing in Plateau Village, Mairisa bint Fuda, could probably assist in creating a portal to the coordinates. At that point, we were certain that we could follow the Tremblant party -- to the Lost City of Frore itself.
There, in Frore, one discovered the final fate of Sir Joffre and the Gelidite's Great Work. Abrim of Morningthaw chronicled the final battle against The Work in his tale Return to Frore, which became a bestseller at the capital towns of Cragstone, Hebian-to, and Zaikhal.
One also found the Ice Heume and Ice Hammer of Frore, as well as a colorful Gelidate Robe. See our Lost City Of Frore quest writeup!.
