City Of Heroes: Electronic Frontier Foundation Investigates Lawsuit

| 14 Jan 2005 14:28

Interesting request for those of you that are interested in participating. Have a look.

Hi folks,

I'm here from Electronic Frontier Foundation trying to do some more investigation into the ridiculous lawsuit Marvel has brought against Cryptic / NCSoft claiming contributory trademark and copyright infringement for City of Heroes. One of the ways EFF might get involved is on behalf of players who were or felt threatened by the suit -- after all, if Marvel says NCSoft is "contributing" to players' infringement of Marvel trademark or copyright, it must be claiming that players themselves are infringing directly. What's next, chasing kids dressed in green and purple off the playground because other kids might get confused into thinking they're Marvel-sponsored Hulks?

If you've tried to play a character that looks like a Marvel character, we'd like to hear from you. You can post to this thread, or better yet, email me at wendy@eff.org.

Thanks!
