Asherons Call: Background on the Disconnect Bug

Hidden deep within the downtime MEGATHREAD, Ibn posted this bit of info regarding the wheretos and whatfors of our favorite new bug:

The game servers talk to the billing servers -- they have to so that if an account is banned or its subscription expires, the game knows to kick that account out. Unfortunately what's happening in this case is that sometimes it's getting the wrong answer to "should I boot this guy"? Either that or it's getting the right answer and misunderstanding it.

This was only impacting Turbine Billing customers, and we did consider bringing the worlds up for Zone customers only. However we would have to bring the worlds down again to prop the fix when we found it, which seemed like a bad idea. We didn't want people to be an hour or two into a long quest only for the worlds to come down to prop the fix.

If you were a Turbine Billing customer, this would have affected you. Maybe not immediately, but you would start getting booted at some point.
