HomeLAN Fed has an interview up with Scott Brown about Auto Assault.
HomeLAN - First, how did the idea for Auto Assault come about?
Scott Brown - The ideas behind Auto Assault come from a number of sources. All of us loved playing Autoduel back in the early '90's -- this was an Origin computer game based on Steve Jackson's great paper Car Wars game. It had it all: arenas, courier missions, an ongoing story -- tons of fun for the technological limitations they were under! Autoduel's "caRPG" footprints were followed by games like RoadWar 2000 and eventually Interstate '76. But lately, the post-apocalypse car role playing game has kind of disappeared and been replaced by pure action games like Twisted Metal. If someone else would make a great car RPG, we'd be too busy playing to work on Auto Assault! Even the post-apocalypse genre itself has been ignored: X-Com, Wasteland, and Fallout are all dying to be made with modern technology. We're hoping to capture some of the magic of all of those games, combined with modern technology, 3D glory, more content, online gameplay, and full physics. Other than that, it's a pretty easy project.
