The SWG community is bustling and active, moreso than I dreamed was possible from an online game. Then again, I don't have that much experience with MMORPGs, Galaxies being my first on this scale. I played Diablo a bit, back in the day, but its not exactly the same thing even if you can still buy special weapons on Ebay.
So as I played, vowing this time to give SWG a real chance I discovered there was so much more than grinding and working on your character. Although personal development for your character is essential in the game, there is much much more. Discovering Warcry was an eye-opener as well, since alot of the information presented there wasn't about the RPG grind but about culture, social issues, background and finally....experience. That's what Galaxies is about to me, experiencing the wonderful vision that Lucas has, as seen through the eyes of Sony and the Dev team. It's there, the desert wastes of Tattoine; the mysterious jungles of Yavin full of magic and sunlight; the shrouded eerie world Dathomir. The Force, Imperials, Rebels fighting for a cause, blasters and spice, its all there and more. The myriad worlds and wonders are shared with familiar NPC's and our own fellow travellers, the players, who add their own creative genius. So it all opens up and develops and becomes something more than code and upgrades. It becomes a community. It has evolved into that enigmatic social construct that is fraught with problems and pitfalls but ultimately, like our own real communities, hopefully becomes something grand. And it has.
Now I've been given the chance to write for Warcry and become more directly involved in this community that is shaping itself out of the efforts of so many outstanding players. As I stumble wide-eyed and child-like into the universe of possibilities that you create in Galaxies, I would like to write about what I see, talk to you about what you see and finally record the grand ascension that is the Community of Star Wars Galaxies. So if you see me, a transient wanderer, loose upon your server, notepad and pen in hand, buy me a drink and tell me a story. Rumour or myth, secret or simply a wonderful experience you happened to have, I'll hear them all. If you have a purpose or a cause, yell it out over the din of the cantina or whisper it in my ear in the covert secrecy of an alley or darkened shop, I'll hear them all and bring it to the world of Warcry to shout it out over the holonet.
Lastly, for me, this is a great opportunity and I'd like to thank Warcry for giving me the opportunity to experience this aspect of the Galaxies community, writing and developing the representation that the players of this game deserve.
Thanks.
