f13.net's schild interviewed Scott 'Scorch' Brown, Project Lead for Auto Assault:
F13:What influenced the creation of this game? While it isn't as "out there" as Romans protecting Earth from aliens in a distant future - it does seem rather....indebted to things like Mad Max and Death Race 2000, also The Fast and the Furious. What image are you going for? Essentially - how was it decided that a car-based combat MMOG would be fun before securing funding for the game?
SCORCH: NetDevil has a few select titles that we have wanted to develop for a long time. A car combat game is one of those. After NetDevil released Jumpgate and we were looking for a new publisher, we met with NCsoft who was impressed with both our team and our Auto Assault pitch. As big post-apocalyptic genre fans, this was an easy fit with a car combat game. Our twist of adding an alien terraforming ship as the "cause" for the apocalypse really gives our storytellers a wide open book to develop with. You can have modern fiction, alien fiction, mutated wildlife, pretty much anything you want.
