Stormowl: "So tell me, why did you choose to spec cooking out of all the available skills?"

Iron Chef Dereth: "Actually Stormowl, I'm glad you asked. I spec'd cooking, alchy, fletching and bow. Now many of you may be thinkin', that cooking is for trade mules and newbs, but I'm tellin' ya right now, it has uses from level 1 to level 126."

Stormowl: "Like what kind of uses?"

ICD: "Well, for starters, there's all sorts of foods you can find on critters, and yes even on the floor. Just think of it as pretenderized for you weak of stomach. All can be used to provide instant stamina and tasty morsels for the fighter on the go. For them there advanced chefs, they've got them fancy field rations.

Stormowl: "We'd love to hear about those, but first what are some of the basics you'd recommend for someone just starting out in the field of cooking?"

ICD: "Trusty fying pan, a sharp carving knife, cooking pot, a heavy grinder, mortar and pestle, be sure to whipe that down after all that alchemy stuff, you never know what it might do to her insides." he laughs a little "I knew a guy once he had some hemotite mixed in with his cinnamon, boy he was in the outhouse for two weeks."

Stormowl: laughs "ahem, that must have been hard on him"

ICD: "Well yea, but enough about him, we're here to talk 'bout cookin'."

Stormowl: " That we are. You were saying about the basics?"

ICD:" Yea, most of those can be obtained just about anywhere. And here's a few examples of what you can do with 'em. lets say you just killed a mean ole' banderling and it turns out he left his last meal for ya. Oh look,.. a steak, fry that puppy up! Thats a quick 12 stam if you're a newb fighter that can really help. Now let's say you happen to have a bag or 2 of flour, Great! Now lets zest up that simple bit of uncooked steak into a Holtburger, and that's gonna give you 15 stam. There're more fancy renditions of the holtburger, but I wouldn't advise them unless you jus want to do it. What I would advise is simple field rations, healing simple field rations and mana simple field rations, these are very light when uncooked and a batch can be whipped up very fast."

Stormowl: "Very interesting. Can you explain a bit for our readers how they could go about making one of these field rations while on the go?"

ICD: " Why sure. This simple recipe is easy enough even fer an injured cook/fighter to mix up. For Healing Simple field rations, you take some pepper, grind it in your morter n'pestle to make hot sauce, add hot sauce to uncooked simple field rations, then you have healing uncooked simple field ration, just drop that in your cooking pot when you are ready and Boom! For a more high falutin' chef, use the same recipe on elaborate dried field rations, you'll get somethin' so tasty it'll make those trade elixers taste like that nasty peppermint pumkpin pie Ulgrim makes." He makes a horrible face.

Stormowl: hides her sniggles.

ICD: "Plus this lil' mix won't hurt you to make it. And instead of one at a time you make 25 at a time.

Stormowl: "You can also make stamina and mana rations in a similar way too, correct?"

ICD:" Yea you can, those are called elaborate field rations for that there stamina on the go, and mana elaborate field rations."

Stormowl: "How much does each of those replace of your health, stamina and mana?"

ICD: "Well for the elaborates, it's 70 health, 70 mana, and 100 stam."

Stormowl: "Wow that last one's a lot. More than the potions"

ICD: "Yup. Sure is, and I'm sure you'll also note that the health and mana are just as good as those fancy pants trade elixirs."

Stormowl:" Yes we will. These are all very good reasons to use cooking as a skill but why have it
spec'd?
"

ICD: "I'm glad you asked that. Having cooking spec'd, causes it to go up just about every time you cook. Even if it's only a small bit and, you can carry those healing elaborate field rations you just made uncooked, then throw 'em in a pot when you are ready (just add water) and you won't have to hold so much weight. You'll also be the envy of all the other fighters because they'll always be wanting you to cook them up some rations or in an emergency maybe even some healing rations when they run outta those hefty trade elixirs 'cuz a fighter can only carry so many before they're crawling on their belly. Then it's the cook who's laughing at them as he trots on by" he laughs.

Stormowl: "And cooking has yet another good use for it other than actually cooking. Can you tell us what that
is?
"

ICD: "There are many uses for chefs. If you still don't believe me try to dye yer own clothes, he he he. Sure orange and pink might look cute at first, but eventually you'll have to go out in public. Not to mention that nasty drop in armor level."

Stormowl:"Well I can see we're out of time, thank you very much for that information Iron Chef Dereth, it's been very interesting, and hopefully we've all learned something about the importance of cooking even as a spec'd skill."

ICD:"Thank you Stormowl, it's been a pleasure."
