City Of Heroes: Update 4 Feature: Client Performance Profiler

| 23 Mar 2005 07:16

Not everything in Issue 4 is gameplay. Some things get added in that are functional and more to make life just a little easier. There are little things like the new Team Seek selection and comment functionality and the new Click to Move movement style. And then there are bigger more complex things that help everyone. SuperMartin explains one new such feature, the Client Performance Profiler.

Hi super people,

Issue 4 has a nifty feature that you may want to use - a client performance profiler. Here's how it works:

1. wait until your game isn't running as well as you'd like it to.
2. type "/profiler_record <filename>" (ex: "/profiler_record testformartin").
3. play for a while (15 seconds to a minute).
4. type "/profiler_stop"
5. find the file you just created (in this case "testformartin.cohprofiler") in "c:program filescity of heroesprofiler" (or your cohtest directory) and email it to me at the email address in my profile, along with a short description of what you were doing.

These files can get very large very quickly, so don't run this for a long duration (like I said, 15 seconds to a minute). You can zip the file if you feel like it.

That is all.

Edit: This also records some amount of networking information, so if your connection is bad (training room might be a bad example since it's acting up right now) then you can send in one of these recordings to show us what might be happening.
