"LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment announce Beta 3 setback in development of Star Wars Galaxies - release date pushed to December, 2003"

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- March 11, 2003 -- LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC and Sony Online Entertainment Inc. today announced that a major setback had occurred in the Beta testing of the highly anticipated and industry heralded MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies. As has been previously disclosed on Sony's www.starwarsgalaxies.com homepage, developers and industry pundits alike have been awed to discover that over 400,000 fans and customers have registered on Sony's Station website in anticipation for the release of the game. In preparation for Beta 3, SWG developers had 50,000 beta cd's produced and sent out over 50,000 Beta 3 e-mail invites.

The public response to the Beta 3 e-mail invitations has left developers and Sony marketing alike puzzled and dismayed. Only 112 of the 50,000 Beta 3 invites were accepted. When contacted for an official quote, Raph Koster, creative director and lead developer for the SWG project, had the following to say: "Well it appears that the previous figure of 400,000 registered fans was incorrect. After contacting ISP providers, anonymous email services, and linguistic studies, the actual number of registered fans is closer to 1,350. The other 398,650 registered accounts all belong to the same forum poster and member, Leia_4loot. So, we are now stuck with about 50,000 extra Beta 3 cd's, and we just don't know what to do."

THIS IS NOT REAL! It is, however, funny and helps break up the tension of waiting for the Beta 3 announcement. If I get one e-mail about this FAKE article, I'm going to laugh at you for being so gullible. :)
