Asherons Call: Little Weekend Q&A

| 15 Mar 2003 23:21

LifeKaos asks: Dev's can we implement Weapon/wands and shield dyes?
Orion_Turbine: The long and the short of this is as follows. The way that our engine works involves palettes. Unless an item is created with several palettes that allow it to be so many different colors we cannot use the dyes. Weapons wands and shield draw from a wholly different palette set-up than clothing and armor. This means that calling a blue palette on a shield can actually make that shield green. How you might ask, because there is a numeric equivalent for the colors and they may differ from piece to piece. Hence pink on clothing is orange on Armor...so on and so forth. Without going through and creating new palettes for literally hundred of different objects this cannot be done. So at this point there are no plans to make changes to this.

.Anck. asks: 1) Are you changing the vulnerabilties of monsters?

2) Are you changing (and/or paying attention to when changing other stats) the regen rate of certain monsters?

3) Are you reducing the number of life-immune creatures?
Orion_Turbine: 1) No. Save for Elementals who see a step backward so they are not so damn tough anymore.

2) Yes, but far fewer then you would expect.

3) Yes, but not as pulled back as you would think. We found in rebalancing that a lot of the creatures that had partial life immunity actually had that life immunity in the wring direction. For instance. The Scrawed Grievver and the Destroyer Grivver. The scrawed had a higher immunity to life magic than the Destroyer did. This hardly made sense so there were changed made when we saw this behavior. There are still some creatures that will resist life magic more than others do. But yes on the whole they have changed.

[A href="http://vnboards.ign.com/message.asp?topic=46672626&start=46712047"]illusion24[/a] asks: In the coming changes, will missile defense actually, er, work?
Orion_Turbine: Missile Defense has always worked. The creatures have just been gimped. It's still going to be tough to gauge until you actually play with it, but I think that we're much closer. I know that without it in testing boulders are ripping me up along with arrows and what not.

Daggergon_SC aks: Orion, you said that the "Banderling Enforcer/Thrasher Camp" spawns gave you roughly twice the xp as the tummies. And, I think you said the tummies gave you 18K. I think that means you doubled the xp of the Banderlings. Am I reading that correctly?
Orion_Turbine: Perhaps more than double. There have been some experience increases and some decreases. Now though without making it so that you simply rocket through level we've scaled experience to be more plentiful through the mid levels where it was lagging the most. At higher levels these xp rewards also increased so that high level players won't want to fight the things that lower level players are fighting.
