Upon the rushing fury of the high seas our adventure had surely come to a swift and violent end. The waves crashed, the skies roared, and we clung to the bits to wood muttering our final thoughts through gritted teeth. Then I must have suffered a blow to my precious brain pan, for all went dark.
As my eyes swam back into focus, I stared up at the lush leafy top of a palm tree. I thought for sure this must be heaven, and I would sit up to find myself surrounded by towel-clad women bearing those drinks with the little umbrellas. Ah, wouldn't that be nice... Then Sunflahes haggard face peered over me, blocking the intense morning light and efficiently killing the fantasy. Seeing me alive, for the most part, he grinned. Apparently I had been hit by a spar of wood that had been torn from the mast and washed back by an oncoming wave, connecting squarely with my head. Sunflash had somehow managed to lash a rope around himself and me, securing us to the mast. Despite the watery chaos he also retrieved the sails in case we survived and were able to use them later (how resourceful!) Though even he could not withstand the pounding water, and soon too lapsed into unconciousness.
