It's Saturday again, and that means it's time for you to shake off the doldrums from the rest of the week and chip in on a discussion. We've provided the prompt as usual, and this week is downtime.
Just about every MMOG has utilized downtime as an integral gameplay mechanic, some better than others, but is it boon or bane? Here's a short rundown of the pros and cons from the player perspective:
Pro
-Provides a break
-Allows social relationships to develop
-Encourages interaction with other game mechanics (crafting, etc)
-May discourage camping
-"Reality check" period
-Class balance (e.g. A mage pumps out massive damage, but has to rest frequently)
You can find the rest of the post here. Disagree? Call me a fool. Agree? Call me a fool. Er, wait, one of those is wrong. Anyway, join in!
