Many have spoken of the release of the Hopeslayer, and the final, cataclysmic battle between the forces of the Isparians and the Herald, but few seem willing to speak of the involvement of the Dericost undead in the defeat of Bael'Zharon. Without their actions, however, it seems very unlikely that any of Dereth would have survived the Fourth Sending - but such survival was not without cost.
Whilst many of the Isparians were resurrected by the Lifestones, those who were taken by the Shadows were not so lucky. But some lost their lives under even more tragic circumstances - destroyed by those they were attempting to protect, thanks to rash decisions and old prejudices. I speak of the casualties the Sand Kings suffered - whilst the primogenitor undead, such as Lady Aerfalle, are able to rise once more after a mortal blow, Anadil of Shakrassekor and Asmolum the Worm possessed no such ability. Noble general and cunning spymaster alike met their doom at the hands of the Isparian populace, near the bones of Ithaenc Cathedral.
Anadil's remains were brought to the lodgings of the Sand Kings in the south direlands, where they remained interred for many months, along with the parts of his unique warrior's staff - the Staff of the Nomads. In recent days, however, the remaining Sand Kings suffered an invasion by part of Black Ferah's shadow forces, seeking vengeance for the destruction of one of the Thorns of the Hopeslayer at Ayn Tayan - a feat accomplished primarily by Anadil. The shadows stole one half of the shattered Staff of the Nomads - but not without suffering heavy losses, and allowing the Undead to recover the second half, and record the destination of the Shadows.
Aesa, of our Quest Team, has followed the clues left behind by both the Shadows and the Undead, and has produced a complete guide to obtaining and repairing the Staff of the Nomads - a weapon both steeped in history, and with much practical use. Those with the skills to wield such a weapon are advised to peruse our Quest Compendium, and prehaps obtain the Staff of the Nomads for themselves!
