Dungeons And Dragons Online: Gamespy DDO Preview and Interview from GenCon

| 21 Aug 2005 22:32

GameSpy has some new impression from playing DDO under the guidance of Mr. Eckelberry at GenCon. While dedicated followers may find nothing new to rave about, especially in the wake of Loki_D20 and mattllow's coverage, it's still a decent read.

The teleportation process left me kind of cold. While I appreciate the value of cutting down tedious travel time, without the ability to travel through a common world, it really removes you away from a "sense of place" and the feeling that Eberron is a coherent world. Teleportation, rather, makes the world feel like a string of self-contained bubble universes. That being said, once I was actually in the dungeon, the real value of having instanced challenges really came to the fore. The first challenge for me and my dwarf companion was to take on a room full of undead.

It's all fun and games until somebody's mom shows up (see Page 2.) You can read the article from the top by clicking here.

There is also a new interview with David Eckelberry available here. The interview seems to be a general outline of the DDO experience, though it does mention there may be very rare and valuable mana potions. Oh, and still no PvP, so stop asking!
