Final Fantasy: PC vs. Consoles in the Japanese Market

I found this article at GameSpy and thought it would be of interest, since it does talk quite a bit about FFXI and how its starting to revolutionize the Japanese PC gaming market. The market for PC games across the Pacific is quite different than it is in North America and Europe.

"Final Fantasy XI stands tall as the zenith of PC gaming in Japan. The PS2 version was successful. The PC version wasn't as big a hit. But, in the dormant PC world, it was a wake-up call. This is what's possible with a mouse and keyboard: nearly half a million subscribers in a country where console game sales to the same tune is considered a fairly major success."
