Dark Age Of Camelot: Cyssa Sounds Off On Groups

| 10 Apr 2003 21:06

Have you ever been in a group, let's say perhaps 45 minutes. And within the time of your hunting spree, everyone was just getting into the rhythm and groove of the pulls. Somewhere down the line, a couple of items drop, someone leveled, someone died, someone had a turkey baking in the dryer, or you have to blow dry your hair, they conveniently state that they must leave the group! [p]

EX1:

Uber item drops from the Uber Creature!

Uber loot goes to Bob. [p]

Bob: Oh, will you look at the time!? I have to go guys, later! [p]

Bob leaves the group! [p]

EX2:

Jill dies from Uber Creature!

Jill loses Uber amount of exp, con and dignity! Eat the dirt! [p]

Jill: Welp, I gotta run. The turkeys in the dryer! Bye. [p]

Jill leaves the group! [p]

EX3:

Billy gains Uber Exp from Uber Creature!

Billy levels! [p]

Billy: Just made what I needed to make, cya. [p]

Billy leaves the group! [p]

These are just some minor examples of what I'm referring to. And I'm sure that the lot of us have done this once or twice. Shoot, even I've done it once or twice. But only if the losses on my end were substantially great and there was no way that this group was going to bend over and help me get it back! I don't anticipate such wonderful luck when people start leaving left and right for odd or unapparent reasons. But c'mon! If you join a group, stick in there for at least an hour and a half! Show some backbone! I've had people join a group for 20 minutes, they get a drop, level or die and they leave. It's uneventful, a shame and a waste of my and everyone else's time to have to wait for your hide, get you in the group and then you take something and then leave. How ungrateful can you get!? [p]

I'm not just ranting on this for sheer enjoyment. I'm stating it because it takes the fun out of grouping with other people. I'm almost scared nowadays to group with someone because it never fails when someone has to conveniently leave. *sniffs herself* Do I offend? Did I mentally think something about your trainer talking about you behind your back? Did I wear an odd color that disagreed to your tastes? Did I ... It's painfully obvious that dedication is something that not a lot of people have anymore. One would literally have to stick their neck out to get someone to stay just so the group would last until the inevitable hit them. I love to group and get items and level and die in the mill of it, but at least I have the heart to give them the warning of 20 minutes at least before I had to go. It's a polite way of saying, "Hey, I've got this much time left before the world ends, just to let you all know!" And people don't get so edgy and indignant when you give them heads up. I've heard some outlandish things that would make an Isolationist Guard blush to some people that pulled crazy stunts like taking loot or exp and running![p]

Just rethink your efforts for a moment on grouping though. It's a fun thing to do, a way to meet people, easier experience, better chance to get stuff, higher chance of dying in some cases. But you just suck the life and fun out of it when you dip out and leave consistently for the same and unobvious reasons. It would be nice to see that you would have the time and the dedication needed to stay in the group for a good period to make it worth the while. That's what I think is needed at least... [p]

Give a hoot, and stay in group! [p]
