There are two ways in which you can use GTAoE one would be using the mouse, and the other using the keyboard. I personally like using the keyboard method, because there are enough keys one must use on the keyboard to play in RvR, and if I have my hand on the mouse at the same time, it just complicates things. The default key to activate the ground-targeting pointer is F5. Hold this key down, and you will see a pretty little crosshair avatar, with a sphere in the middle of it. The range of GTAoE is 1500 the same as a direct-damage spell. This means you can (using your directional keys) put it anywhere in a 360-degree radius within the 1500 range limit. A good thing about GTAoE is that it has no LoS (Line of Sight) restrictions, this means you can target anywhere around you, even without being able to see the ground you are targeting. You can also target through walls, keeps, gates, trees, and trolls if you want to.
While you are holding down the F5 key, you can using the directional keys that make you move forward, and back to place the pointer on the exact spot you want the spell to originate from. GTAoE also has a vertical sphere that allows you to target objects above the ground, for example a mile gate always has a room at the top of it. You can use your camera pan down/up keys (S, and X by default) to target this room, and the ground at the same time. After you are done doing all of this release your F5 key, and you will be ready to cast your spell. Currently, the spell has a 7 second recast timer, for when it was first introduced it had no recast timer allowing some deadly things to happen during keep defense.
If you are unsure about what keys you need to use you can use the /keyboard command to determine which keys are bound to what. There is a way if you lose your ground targeting pointer to have to come back to you, but this just doesn't work for me half the time, I assume it only works if you actually lose the pointer. There really is no way that I have found to re-center the target on yourself, so when you move locations you will have to bring the target back to yourself by painfully using the directional keys to retarget your pointer. However, if you zone the pointer is automatically re-centered on yourself. If you do happen to "lose" your pointer Mythic suggests holding down the ground target key for a few seconds, and the pointer will re-center itself, but again I don't see it work that much.
Well how many people can you hit with this spell? I've noticed you can hit about 8 or more people at once, the radius of the spell being similar to that of PBAoE. The damage of the spell is nothing to get excited about, currently your primary casting stat does not effect how well it does. Most of the time with my highest level GTAoE depending on resists I will hit from 80-150 damage on a target. This spell is also good for pulling monsters that reside on a house, or some other location you cannot get to, or see.
If I have missed anything in this article, or if you have any other good GTAoE tips, send me an e-mail I will be glad to add them!
