| These little guys, like Vermin (which are mutated rats) and wasps, can't touch you. The Vermin are getting to the intelligent stage ... they make crude weapons and wear crude clothing. | Entrance to Cragstone |

Up ahead you see the western windmill. Rebuilt, you can see, from the one of your day...This was Hildar house, where the healer and the grocer lived. This was the inn. This was Gondibyr Langarl's house, the mage who wanted to know more about the Shadows. He may have found out too much.

And down this way....Soon you'll see the Crater, and what's left of the Shadow Spire. Here Elysa and her Advocates, and Celdiseth and his apprentices, fought the Shadow Spire. Celdiseth's apprentice Hoshino Kei later married Borelean. Here, Asheron and Bael'Zharon fought it out, and Asheron fled and led the Hopeslayer to Plateau.
Now, not long after we came back out of the Shelters, we began to see and hear distressing things. We were attacked by parties of undead, led on by other undead...with familiar names: Renselm, Hahnain, Saelar. Remember them? They used to collect Mnemosynes outside Samsur. Well, they did a favor for Geraine ...found an important book of magic for him. And he said "Thank you very much" and they said "That's ALL?" And so they decided to rebel against him while he slept. |

Note that the river's been dammed here. This was originally the swampland surrounding Sawato. A city was built here, called Artefon, and a great necropolis...and after the cataclysm the bodies of many great heroes, such as Thorsten and Elysa, Borelean and Kei, and Aun Aulatah were reburied in the Artefon Catacombs to keep them safe from the Nemesis races.
The magical shock that set the wards on the Shelters Caused the Prosper to flood Artefon and when we returned we found it a lake. Then the Archons commanded the Drudges to build a dam and drain it. |

The Isle of Tears
There's the Island. We can swim. You see it's much flattened out and full of Drudgies.
I asked, "is that underground tunnel the old underground city?"
Tapuaua answered, "Yes, but it doesn't look like a city any more ... just tunnels, clawed out by the Drudge I seem to remember that the City collapsed in the Cataclysm, and the Derethians had to dig the tombs out to relocate the bodies."
