The Shadows have touched countless lives here upon Dereth, from the highest to the lowest - from Emperor Caerlin I, Most Dignified and Enlightened Ruler of the Seaborne Empire of Yalain, all the way to the single Shadow Sprite, condemned to the shadow-twisted parts of Xarabydun. Even with the passing of Bael'Zharon from this land, the taint of the Shadows still lingers...
Some would point to Tufa, and despair to think of the powers responsible for its destruction. Others would look upon the fallen spire near Cragstone, and mock the Shadows as weak, as nothing more than a dusty page of history. But neither will see the true horror of the Shadows - a horror Hamud ibn Rafik knows well.
Hamud's tale has been known for many months now, but his torture is unending - as is that of his daughter, Devana bint Hamudi. Acting on Devana's urgings, Aesa recently re-investigated the Mountain Fortress, Hamud's last known location. Though no way could be found to free the Shadow from his torment, the quality of the weapons obtained in the process, Hamud's Pyreal Katar and Oswald's Dagger, seem to have improved. Those seeking such either of these weapons are advised to seek the Mountain Fortress - but are asked to do so with the utmost respect for both Hamud and his daughter.
