Asherons Call: Storms on Cloud 9: Actors and Reactors

| 21 Apr 2003 12:55

Skotos.net publishes a weekly series of articles by game developers in various areas of the trade. "Storms on Cloud 9" describes itself as thus:

Storms on Cloud 9 is a column about the construction on online games with a focus on mechanics. The author, Scott Holiday, is currently working on the upcoming Skotos World "Orphan Crown." He likes games such as paper-scissors-rock and can sometimes win at tic-tac-toe.

This week's column, Actors and Reactors, is about RPRing and how do you a) define that and b) get the feel of small-time RPGing into an MMO world. It's interesting that he brings a voting system in as an answer. We did vote for/against Nuhmudira's Death. And a recent MMO, A Tale in the Desert, has DAILY votings on the politics that govern the world and the people and buildins within them.

But, would this work for AC NOW? Or for say SWG? Or have we already pigeon-holed ourselves into such exceedingly dynamic content that we've made it impossible to have player-made decisions at light-speed?
