I was playing on a different realm. Just to get away from the everyday of my previous realm and server. There was a Quest that I was given to kill a couple critters. And return the items that they have dropped, and I would be done! Now, I don't really see any problems with other people hunting in the same area as I, since we all have to deal with each other sooner or later. However, I find this particular situation a bit amusing since this is a free country after all. But back to the Story. As I was killing my first critter, along comes this other player, stops and then starts to attack my critter! Now, you know that in the DAoC_RoC, that it distinctively states this...
You may NOT kill steal from members of your own realm.
And directly, they violated the number one rule. I told them to stop. They told me I was KS'ing. KS- Kill Steal for those that do not know. At first, it didn't dawn on me what that meant until I realized why they killed my crit for my quest! I explained the situation to them and told them that as long as I was not attacking their critters, everything would've been fine! They chose a few choice words and spat them at me. And I just simply carried on my merry way, continuing to finish my quest. They were also going out of their way to try and kill my critters, but in vain attempt they were too late on both accounts. They also threatened in a lighter sense that they were going to BAN me. Hehe, go ahead and BAN me poncho, but it won't do you any good! I politely silenced them with /ignore (name here), and happily Appealed them to CSR.
Here are the two RoC rules for KS within all realms...
1. You may NOT kill steal from members of your own realm. Kill stealing is defined as the repetitive killing of monsters who are already in combat with or pursuit of another player from your realm, without the other person's express permission.
2. You may NOT leech experience from members of your realm. XP Leeching is defined as uninvited, repetitive initiation of combat against monsters that are already in combat with another player from your realm -OR- uninvited, repetitive healing of a realm-mate in combat with a monster. This is usually with the express intent of gaining experience with little or no risk to yourself.
The second rule doesn't apply, however the first does to this situation. I don't have to reinforce my reasons, everything has been stated. It's a free country and I am able to make choices without having to curse or make a behind out of myself. But let's just take this a step further shall we? Just so you can see the sardonic and juvenile situation here. Let's say that Mr. Pallie is hunting in the Tomb of Mithra. There is a whole slue of others in there as well. But do you think for one moment that someone is going to tell Mr. Pallie to leave because he is hunting in THEIR area? "This planet ain't big enough for the two of us!" Says Daffy, and pushes Marvin the Martian off, left dangling without recourse. I find it selfish and just plain immature. There is plenty of room for two people to hunt anywhere! Why make a big fuss about it if they weren't taking your kill while you weren't on it? No one claimed it or stamped their name on it
But seriously folks; greediness is the root of all evil. Is it that important to run someone off just because they were within the 100 feet of you and your hunting ground? There have been many occasions where 2-4 groups have camped Danaoin clerks for example, and not have one problem at all! They don't ask; they don't even bother to say "pardon'. However, there is that communal understanding that is met when hunting is concerned in some areas. And it's respected time and time again. I make such a protest about this because I don't see why people make a big deal out of someone hunting in the same area as them. Yes, the RoC is the rule, and Golden rule at that. But, rarely is it broken because of the mutual faction and understanding of hunting and sharing.
Be mature about how you handle your situations and dealings with people who hunt in the same area as you. Even if it means sluffing their insults off by light laughter and shrugs. Just don't appeal to their anger by answering back in the same fashion. If you feel a little disheartened by their behavior, you have all the right in the world to /ignore them and carry on. I myself don't tolerate Player Harassment and threats. They are detrimental to me the others around me. There are a lot of people that want to abide by the rules, but sometimes, they are broken by an accident, misunderstanding, or just plain meanness! So be mindful when someone obeys the rules and stand their ground where as others may be rude and just plain mean. And for those, they solve it with cursing and breaking the policy they try to uphold in remedial fashion.
