Asherons Call: Can an addiction to a MMORPG ruin your life?

Star Wars Galaxies Vault has posted an article on the effects of MMORPG addiction - an interesting counterpoint to the BBC News article posted earlier this week. Although this article is aimed at future players of Star Wars Galaxies, it is relevant to players of any MMORPG.

One of the biggest drawbacks to MMORGPs is the amount of time one will spend playing them. The games can be so addictive and a lot of time people do not even realize how long they have been playing them. I can recall many times when I only logged in to do a quick trade yet I find myself four hours later questing and didn't even realize I had spent so much time playing. I am writing this piece as a friendly reminder to all the people in the gaming community. There have been times where I decided to play all night instead of going out with friends and I regret it now so hopefully you will learn something from reading this.

What are your thoughts on the issue of MMORPG/game addiction? Personally, its not something that's ever worried me overmuch - then again, I had no life before I became a gamer *grin*.
