World Of Warcraft: World of WarCraft: Not on the Xbox

Square-Enix is porting current Final Fantasy XI to the XBOX 360, and many believe that Blizzard's amazingly popular World of Warcraft, which currently boasts almost 6 million subscribers, was a certainty for Microsoft's console.

"We do not have any plans to take WoW to Xbox 360," Blizzard COO Paul Sams told MCV. "WoW is built as a PC gaming experience. Porting PC games to console often compromises games, and we'd never allow the WoW gameplay experience to suffer.

"Also, it's important to us that the entire player base is able to play together. Microsoft's Xbox Live architecture is very protected from all sorts of outside influence, so shared play between 360 and PC owners would be very tough. We wouldn't even consider WoW for 360 unless we could overcome that hurdle."

However, there is still some hope for console MMO fans, with Sams adding: "I wouldn't say we have no console plans. Nothing is in place at the moment, but we may be looking at something along those lines in the future."

It would be in Sony's best interest to position itself with Blizzard on the WoW game, it seems Blizzard has no interest in any partnership with Microsoft, so this may be a good opportunity for Sony to keep the delayed PS3 popular.

Lots of folks speculate as to the convenience of playing MMO games on consoles, but many of them forget it's possible to plug keyboards and mice into the XBOX and the PS3. XBOX 360 running Windows Media Center = a huge advance in technology for anyone's entertainment centers!
