Lineage 2: Lineage II Battle Tournament Championship report with replays

| 3 May 2006 01:39

This was the big one, the Lineage II Battle Tournament Finals! Four Division Champions, who fought hard battles to get that title would now meet each other in the Arena. Who would win and would go home early was to be decided in gruelling matches that would last the entire day.

In the first match, Uprising defeated Bartz. Unfortunately, that's about all I can report, as Internet Traffic on the way to the Collesium was murder. That and I forgot the Tournament schedule at work. I know, and I hereby dub myself the biggest loser of the day.

Match 2 saw InnerCatalyst taking on Covenant1. In the 9v9, Covenant1 crushed InnerCatalyst, there's no other way to describe it. 3v3 competition started, but Aramitheya of Covenant1 was accidentaly removed from the field, and action had to be paused while they were moved back. Covenant1 won this round without losing a 3-player team. The 1v1 was a different story as the round started off with Orkor one-shotting Jado. This caused a long pause in the action as the play went under review I guess, since Orcs dropping people like bad habits with a bow is not normal, and also, there was a claim that Jado never got the countdown and was fired on before he was a valid target. It was ruled a legit kill and the round continued with InnerCalyst winning.

Next up was Uprising versus InnerCatalyst. IC's good luck from the last round they won didn't carry over to this match, as Uprising rolled over them in the 9v9. During the next round of 3v3 fights, Rygor and VietKnight had a toe-to-toe melee battle that lasted well over 45 seconds, but that was not to be the most amazing thing from this match. During the 1v1, Texana of Uprising dropped the mighty Orkor without him even getting that one deadly shot from his bow. Match winner was Uprising.

The 4th Match pitted Bartz against Covenant1. This may have been the shortest match of the day. Covenant1 steamrolled Bartz in the 9v9, and defeated them in the 3v3. The highlight was in the 1v1 when Aerlon and Tyrall met on the field and had an epic melee battle that surpassed even the one from earlier. In the end, Aerlon went the way of Hector to Tyrall's Achilles.

Match number 5 was the one we'd been waiting for. Uprising versus Covenant1. The 2 powerhouse teams finally meeting in battle. The match started with the 9v9 round, and it was the best 9v9 that I had seen up to this point in the Tournament, including action from prior weeks. Covenant1 prevailed over Uprising in the first round. In the 3v3, Covenant1 continued the trend of winning over Uprising, but it was close and at several points in the match it looked like it could have swung the other way. The first players on the field for the 1v1 were Texana and Jado. Nuke against Bow. Jado jumped the gun, forcing a restart, and then got frozen to death by Texana. Nuke wins, Uprising wins, we all win. Well, all but Covenant1.

The next match, number 6, Bartz took on InnerCatalyst. In the 9v9 round, Bartz handled InnerCatalyst with ease. It looked like most of their team was still standing at the end of the fight. The 3v3 went to Bartz as well, with a very interesting mini-game known as "Chase Desidaria". The 1v1 round was won by InnerCatalyst, and during the fights the Lottery results were announced for the Event Server, and much to everyone's surprise, no one won. Once again, I am a big loser, because I had honestly thought about buying tickets on a lark.

But no one is reading this to find out who got lucky. You want to read about skill.

The Championship Match was a repeat of Match number 5. Or was it? This was a battle worthy of being the last. Would Covenant1 again win, or would Uprising reach down deep and triumph?

In the final 9v9 of the day, Uprising got revenge for their earlier loss, in a fight that was even better than the first meeting. The 3v3 was a war of attrition as both teams were forced to go to their last set of 3, but Covenant1 emerged victorious. For those of you keeping score at home, it was now tied at 1-1. That meant that the 1v1 would decide the winner of the whole event. And it couldn't have played out any better. Both teams were forced down to the last player. It was Necro versus Necro for the win. And Fur0bat of Uprising was the last one standing. Uprising won the Championship.

For winning, all team members will get special gold names until the next Battle Tournament Finals, tentatively scheduled for July 30th. In addition they recieved 4 Majestic and 5 Dark Crytal helms to distribute as they see fit.

Congratulations to all the finalists, and to Uprising, the 1st ever US Battle Tournament Champions! Once again, many many thanks to NCsoft and the Lineage II Team for making this possible, and for getting WarCry the chance to cover it for our readers.

Replays and Movies
Replays are Lineage II .l2r files which require the Lineage II game client to view. You can still view them without an active subscription, but if you are going to download the client to watch, why not subscribe? The Movies are DivX encoded AVI files.

P.S. Prior to compression these were 150GB of raw Fraps footage. I had to nuke 3 FPS's, 2 RTS's, 1 RPG and 1 other MMO to make room. The other MMO? Wow, I wonder. The RPG got sent back to Oblivion.
