Neverwinter Nights 2: Chapman on the Trailer

| 9 May 2006 19:55

Nathaniel Chapman responded to those worrying that the pre-rendered nature of the trailer meant that the in game graphics could not possibly measure up. Here is his response:

While it is true that the Trailer is pre-rendered, it's not entirely accurate to say that those assets aren't related in any way to our in-game assets.

When crafting a model for our game, we first generate a high-poly version, and then use the high-poly version to generate normal maps which are applied to a low-poly model. We still have the high-poly models, though, and those models are the ones you're seeing in the video.

So, basically, the characters in the game will look like lower-poly versions of the ones from that movie. The magic of normal mapping!

Great, great news!
