Neverwinter Nights 2: Georg Zoeller On The NWN Community

If the game have had no main story, there would have been only builders, no players

If the game wouldn't have had multiplayer, it would probably have sold about 30-04% less over time

If the game had been a PW toolkit, many of the PWs wouldn't have found any players because a PW toolkit wouldn't have sold to casual players.

Without the toolset, you wouldn't have had anyone playing multiplayer, PWs or even single player modules, because the official campaign just wouldn't cut it.

Without the DM client, a lot of the multiplayer (i.e. at NWC) wouldn't have happened.

That's not to say that all features are equally important in the equation - but I believe all of them are important to the overall formula and anyone calling for their one favourite feature to be the most important one is missing the point: If NWN had just been your favourite feature, the game would have tanked commercially.

The community, for the most part, has always understood this. The symbiotic relationship between CC creators, builders, PW designers, module designers and scripters, visible on many of the NWN forums and the Vault, made NWN what it is today.

Everyone created their own pocket of expertise, but the general attitude toward other special interest groups in the community has been mostly positive for all these years:

* Without the tools created by the DLA team, NWN would have less than 30% of the custom art content it has today.

* Without art content created using these tools by people people like lisa, thrikreen, ragnarok_mr4, velmar, and many others , people probably would have stopped playing NWN, bored by the cloth, item, creature and tree variations the original game had to offer.

* Without people like Adam Miller, Stephan Gagne, Den of Assassins, etc, putting this art content to use and display in their modules, a lof of players wouldn't have had such a good time with community created modules and probably left the community.

* Without Lilac Soul's work or the NWN lexicon guys, a lot of people would have given up on creating their own modules.

* Without NWNX2, a lot of the PWs wouldn't exist.

* Without Rizzen and the deciated people at NWC, a lot of DMs would have never found players and a lot of players would have never found out about the joys of playing a multiplayer game like it was supposed to be played ... and become builders themselves.

* Without the DMs and dedicated players out there, places like nwconnections would never have taken off.

* Without all the scripters, portrait artists, and composers creating content and uploading it for all to share on the vault, a lot of the systems we can see in modules and PWs today would not exist or be incredibly boring and nobody would play them.

* Without all the players looking for modules, the creations of all the groups above would have never been played and generated positive feedback - and these people would have left the community for other games and mod communities.

* Without the story interested people buying the premium modules, we would have stopped patching NWN at 1.64, never adding the features that were made for the premium modules by groups such as DLA (like SetName() or the trap functions in the DM client).

* Without Maximus providing persistent, fair and totally unbiased reporting of news and information for all groups in the community during the last 6 or 7 years, a ton of people would never have found out about NWN and all the wonderous things it has to offer.
