Recently, Sanya over at Mythic recently stated that she is putting together another "The One Thing" list. For those not aware, this is a list she keeps of those things that players want. "The one thing I really want in DAoC is..."
You get the idea. Multiple sites and boards currently have them going. In fact, you can find the Warcry list right over here. With all the furor over this game-wide want list, I thought I would dedicate a column to the things that roleplayers might like to see.
My first and greatest want comes from the very beginning of the game: the character manager. My one gripe about Dark Age of Camelot has remained, since day one, the look of the character models and the lack of a great number of options. Two hairstyles per race, and what, five faces? A handful of hair colors? These, I would wager, have not seen updates at all, while the rest of the game has, including creature skins. Give us more variety!
Hand in hand with this comes a desire for more variety in clothing. Roleplaying clothes and hats, of course, make a fantastic start, but I should like more utility. I spend a good deal of my roleplaying time also hunting, and I would like a distinct style not limited to how I color my six pieces of armor and one cloak. Seeing the scramble to acquire the new helms, such as the Boogey Helms, I consider this a popular desire.
We have a nice selection of dyes now, but I should like to see more. What about white? Or cream? Where are these nice, light colors? And what about "multi-colored" dye, which dyes your armor in a specific pattern of colors? Given the graphics advancements brought upon by Shrouded Isles, I would also like to see "proper tinting" a la EverQuest, where the studs on studded armor do not get washed in the dye mix, and the highlights of the armor remaining either true colors or complimentary shades.
I think no one would complain about more emotes, especially a proper kneel. I would very much like to be able to lay down, as well. These are also the only way we have to communicate with people from other realms (or their corpses, usually), so not only do these make for good roleplay with our realm-mates, they allow us to express our sentiments to our foes.
Loosening some race and class restrictions could also be quite nice. I want a Valkyn Shaman!
Most of all, however, I want lore. I want stories and information that tell us more about the world we play in. We have no information on the intelligence of Trolls, the tribal nature of the Valkyn, how the type of tree affects the personality of the Sylvan... These things all help to enrich the world we spend our free time in.
I encourage everyone to participate in this. It will help Mythic better serve us, and in turn will keep us all happier with the game we like to play.
