World Of Warcraft: Blizzard Answers Your Questions About LANWAR

| 5 Jun 2006 23:50

We are proud to announce that Blizzard will be part of the Lanwar event taking place in Louisville, KY, from June 15 through June 18. Lanwar is the first stop in the World Series of Video Games, a series of tournaments and events around the world where gamers can get together and compete for glory, honor, and awesome prizes. As part of the Lanwar event, we will be hosting a series of tournaments and contests for Starcraft, Warcraft III and World of Warcraft. For more information, please visit our Lanwar webpage:

Below are some answers to various questions we've seen come up since the announcement.

"'World' series for americans only. Typo =P? or is their actually more to this later on?"

There are WSVG events that have been announced in several other countries. For more information regarding the tour, check out their website at:

"Wow, a Blizzard LAN party in Kentucky? I never thought I'd see the day."

Just to clarify, this isn't exclusively a Blizzard event. There'll be lots of other stuff too. Blizzard's involvement will be organizing contests and tournaments in the Blizzard BYOC area of the show. Also, remember there's an official Warcraft III tournament being run by the WSVG folks apart from the contests listed.

"Anyone know of any places that have calendars for e-sports events like these? I live in L.A., so no go on this Kentucky one(at least this time), but Blizzcon really sparked an interest in it for me. Blizzard should just start a whole department or something to run their own/heavily support various official e-sports events around the world. Or at least get a universal, updated calendar up and going on the website(s) :)."

Keep an eye on the www.Battle.net website. We've been working on a calendar feature very similar to what you describe which should be going live in a few weeks.

"pre-fab characters is obviously more fair, but if you are going with prefabs, how will you gear them? (giving the warriors an uber 2hander doesnt help someone who wants to fury spec, giving druids healing gear doesnt help a team that wants to do strat with a feral-hybrid 5th-man, etc). just some things to toss the team that is working on this."

Both contests will use templated, or as you put it "prefab", characters on a dedicated event realm. Unlike BlizzCon, we're not going for a high-end character template set approach here. In fact, we think the race will be most compelling when characters are equipped with regular blue instance armor.

As for Warsong Gulch, the character templates will be extremely well geared..... level 19s

I live in Lousiville too. Just wondering what else to expect. Will we get to see anything from Burning Crusade? Who will be in attendance?.

You can find the list of those who have already registered here:

http://www.lanwar.com/LWHallSections.asp?Process=DISPLAYSECTIONS&EventID=10

There wont be a Blizzard booth at the event, and we wont be showing off the Burning Crusade. We arent approaching this event as we would a trade show. Blizzard staff will be there to run the competitions and have a great time hanging out with fellow Blizzard gamers.

Besides the Blizzard BYOC area, the guys who run WSVG and Lanwar will be hosting a lot of other cool activities and events. Keep an eye on their website, www.thewsvg.com for announcements to that effect.

Do players who want to participate in the competitions have to sit in the Blizzard sections?

Yes. These events are only in the two Blizzard BYOC sections. However, if you're interested in participating and have already registered for a different BYOC section, seat transfers are possible. Please check the official Lanwar FAQ for more information on how that may be accomplished.

Eh.. I am kinda disappointed that blizzard isn't going to be showing off the burning crusade.. when I heard the announcement I was excited.. whats the harm in bringing a few machines to show it off?

It's much more complicated than simply bringing along a few machines. The extensive preparation involved with creating a demo, increasing available staff, combined with both the technical and security arrangements required to host a demonstration would make it a major endeavor.

Wow, cant believe this is being held in Louisville, and as luck would have it im home for the summer. Looks like I will be able to attend, I probably wont participate in any events because I dont want to embarass myself, lol.

We still encourage everyone to sign up for the events in the Blizzard areas. While some players will be very competitive about winning the cool prizes we've made available, we're really just there to have fun and certainly encourage the participants to do the same.

I've reg'd to go and am confident this will be a worthwhile event for all that attend. I'm bringing my daughter as well.. she's a blizzard fan from the git go. Lets have fun!

See you there!

any chance of something like this happening during CPL at Dallas in July?

Yes. We've already announced that we'll be at CPL too. Registration for the two Blizzard BYOC areas at the show is already open, but we haven't and probably will not announce our activity list until after Lanwar concludes.

Posted by Whyland:
For the For Fun Blizzard tourneys will we be paying the $65 fee, will it be free, or will there be some other fee involved?

There is no additional charge to participate in the Blizzard tournaments besides the normal BYOC registration fee that you'd pay for any BYOC seat.

We realize that there are many more questions. Please be certain to check out the official FAQ on the WSVG website:
