Pirates Of The Burning Sea: Jess Lebow Interview

| 10 Jul 2006 18:07

If you missed this interview, its a good one. Here is a snip:

1. I've heard much excitement of the mission system being used, could you explain it to us in more detail?

I suspect what you've heard about is our dynamic single-player storyline missions. It's really pretty cool. As a player interacts with NPCs, we're able to track certain choices he or she makes. As a result, we can have what amounts to a virtual choose your own adventure, where the decisions the player makes affect the outcome of the story. So, for example, if you encounter two NPCs who are both in trouble, you might have to choose who you help. The NPC you aid will become your friend, but the one you didn't help might be bitter, and hold a grudge. In the end, the characters you interact with will change the story you see.

2. How will missions vary between nations? and professions?

Each nation has its own designated enemy, so the missions will vary depending upon who your side hates the most. Geography will also play a large role in who you come into conflict with. The Caribbean isn't symmetrical, and the missions will take into consideration which enemy nation would be the most likely to interfere with your operations. The British and Spanish tend to tangle a lot. The pirates and the French get into it often. But it's possible to get into fights with any of the other groups at any time.

The profession system is currently in the middle of a large overhaul. I'm not sure how this is going to impact the way we deliver missions, but my hope is that every choice you make, including which profession you select, will impact game play.
